Washington University’s Aaron Thompson Named UAA Athlete of the Week

St. Louis, Mo., March 10, 2009 – Junior Aaron Thompson, Elida, Ohio (Elida) of the No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis men’s basketball team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the association.

Thompson averaged 23.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game to lead the Washington U. men’s basketball team to first and second round victories in the 2009 NCAA Tournament last weekend in Elmhurst, Ill. He shot a combined 16-of-32 from the field and was 7-of-17 from three-point range and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Thompson poured in a game-high 26 points and connected on a three-pointer with 12.3 seconds to play in the Bears’ 67-65 win over No. 20 Lawrence University on Friday, March 6, and followed that up with 21 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in a 73-70 victory over No. 8 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday, March 7.
